Physical attraction vs. the importance of soul and character
There are five basic senses we use to perceive someone:
- Taste
- Hearing
- Sight
- Smell
- Touch
Typically, sight is the first sense we engage with, evaluating the physical aspect. The second test occurs through conversation, where hearing plays a role. As the person gets closer, we perceive their smell. Touch, such as a handshake, comes next. Finally, taste applies when interactions reach a more intimate level. The order of these “tests” can vary based on the situation.
Unique Perception Ranges
Each of us processes sensory information uniquely. Our perception of things depends on individual “ranges” for each sense. We can categorize these ranges on a scale from 1 to 10. A score of 5-10 typically falls into the “I like it” category, while 1-5 results in “I don’t like it.” How we score these tests shapes our overall impression of a person. A high score might turn “I like it” into “I love it,” while a low score can lead to dislike.
Assessing Character Through Perception
Circumstances also play a key role in how we perceive someone’s character. For example, if someone refuses to help you, you may view them as selfish. Conversely, someone who assists you will appear generous. These judgments stem from your unique perception scale, not necessarily how others see that person.
Changes Over Time
Over time, some perceptions might shift. For instance, physical appearance may become less important if other qualities compensate for it. This shift might lead to the conclusion that character and soul are far more valuable than physical appearance.
Conclusion: Physical Appearance vs. Character
Physical appearance is simply one test in the perception process, while character becomes the ultimate conclusion. Over time, the tests reveal what matters most in truly understanding someone.
